WWE Monday Night Raw 1st December 2008
From Washington, D.C.
The show opened with a video recapping John Cena's return last week and his attack on Chris Jericho.
A shot aired of Cena's new t-shirt. Jericho discussed Cena's "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" logo. The camera showed Jericho in the concourse wearing a suit. He walked through the crowd while surrounded by security and talked about how he doesn't fight for the fans.
Jericho stopped and told a fan not to touch him. He said he'd have the fan thrown out of the building if he ever touched him again. Jericho made it into the ring while Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler checked in on commentary for the first time. Jericho said he has not interest in converting the fans because they don't matter to him.
Jericho said the only fan he wants to convert is his son. He said his son was two years old when Cena defeated him and forced him to leave WWE. Jericho said his son didn't realize he was a legend. However, in the years since he left WWE, Jericho's son started watching Raw. "Much to my horror, he became a John Cena fan," Jericho said.
Jericho recalled his son emulating Cena in the living room and saying, "You can't see me, Dad," when he dropped him off for school. Jericho asked the fans how he thinks it made him feel that his son looked up to the man who got him fired in the first place. "So, I took action," he said. "I banned my son from watching the WWE."
Jericho said he's lifting the ban he placed on his son because he wants him to see what he does to his hero at the pay-per-view. "At Armageddon, I want my son to see his former hero beaten down and exposed as the flash in the pan that he is, and I want him to see his real hero to come home with the world championship around his waist".
The opening montage aired.
Cole and Lawler introduced the show and hyped Cena vs. Kane, and the Intercontinental Title tournament.
Rey Mysterio made his entrance for an Intercontinental Title tournament match against The Miz. However, Mike Knox was standing at the bottom of the ramp. He glared at Rey, who eventually threw a couple punches at Knox's chest. Knox shoved Mysterio, who slid off the entrance ramp and landed on his arm. Knox jumped on Mysterio and attacked him. The referee pulled him off quickly. Mysterio held his arm in pain as the show cut to commercial.

The announcers recapped Knox's attack on Mysterio.
Backstage, Todd Grisham asked Stephanie McMahon for an update on Rey. "It appears Rey has torn some ligaments in his elbow," Steph said. Layla entered the picture as Grisham made his exit. She said William Regal believes Rey is injured and should no longer be in the tournament. Steph said she couldn't agree more.
1. C.M. Punk and Kofi Kingston defeated Cody Rhodes and Manu in 10:15. Before the match, the announcers recapped highlights of Punk appearing in the Macy's Parade on Thursday. A shot aired of Randy Orton watching the match on a backstage monitor. The heels worked over Kofi early and then the show cut to break.

After the break, the heels worked over Punk, who desperately tried to make the hot tag. He eventually hit a high knee on Cody and made the hot tag to Kofi. Kingston hit some energetic offense and the live crowd responded. In the end, Kofi hit a high kick to Cody's head and scored the clean pin.

Backstage, Randy Orton told Cody Rhodes and Manu that they should take the first step toward "realizing our collective potentials." He said if they were interested, he'd be in his locker room.
In another part of the backstage area, Chris Jericho approached Kane and told him that the buzz in the locker room is that John Cena is going to lock him in the STFU. Kane told Jericho not to play mind games with him. He said he's going to put on show for the fans because he loves them and they love him.

The announcers recapped the Steph and Shane McMahon argument from last week and then highlights of that segment aired.
2. Melina pinned Jillian Hall in 2:50. Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix sat in on commentary. In the end, Melina hit the Last Call for the win. Afterward, Santino and Beth stood up from the announcers' table. Santino said he doesn't think Melina has what it take to beat Glamazon.
Melina said Beth might be the Glamazon, but she doesn't know anything about glamor. She vowed to take her "favorite accessory" the WWE Women's Title. Santino got upset and tried to show up "Melanie" by trying to perform her splits move on the ring apron. He fell to the mat at ringside and grabbed his groin. "Something's wrong," he yelled as Beth tended to him. In the ring, Melina said, "Let me show you how it's done." She leapt into the air and landed on the mat in the splits.

The announcers recapped the Santino segment. A shot aired of Santino icing his groin backstage. Goldust massaged him from behind, as Santino assumed it was Beth. He screamed like a girl once he figured out it was Goldust.
JBL stood in the ring and said he never heard back from Shawn Micahels about his offer. Therefore, he made another offer to HBK that will be easier to understand - a street fight match.
Shawn Michaels made his entrance dressed in street clothes. Even the announcers openly questioned what the hell JBL was talking about. Once HBK entered the ring, JBL said he made HBK the opportunity of a lifetime. JBL said the economy collapse took everyone by surprise other than his own wife. He claimed Shawn lost his 401K, his retirement, and his children's college funds.
JBL said he wants Shawn to come work for him. He said he could continue to wrestle until he's 50. He said he could end up working in a high school gym selling polaroids and bragging about the glory days. JBL said Shawn should take a realistic look in the mirror. He said Shawn isn't exactly the picture of health. JBL said one more slightly erratic bump through a table would finish HBK.
"What else can you really do besides this?" JBL asked. The fans chanted HBK. "That's the offer, Shawn," JBL said. "You get a second chance in life. I'm going to help you out." JBL demanded an answer. JBL dared HBK to kick him in the face like he knows the people want. He said he would give him a free shot. JBL stuck his chin out and dared HBK, who set up in the position and twitched his leg.
JBL warned that the offer he was making Shawn would be off the table forever if he took the shot. JBL closed his eyes and left his chin out. HBK made a pained expression and didn't deliver the kick. The fans booed. HBK looked back at JBL and then left the ring. A louder chorus of boos broke out. HBK walked backstage with his head hung low.
"Looking forward to doing business with you, Shawn," JBL said. Shawn stopped momentarily, but then finished his walk up the ramp and out of camera view.
A shot aired of Batista walking backstage.
Another WWE Shop spot aired with Jim Duggan "speaking on behalf" of a mother who went shopping on Black Friday. This was a spoof on the Geico commercials.
3. Batista pinned Dolph Ziggler in 3:05. Before the match, Dolph introduced himself over the house mic. He tried to shake Batista's hand and then slapped him when he was rejected. Later, Dolph landed a big kick to Batista's head at ringside. He clipped Batista's knee and then dove at him off the second rope, but Batista caught him and hit the spinebuster. Batista hit the Batista Bomb and scored the clean pin.
After the match, Randy Orton walked onto the stage and said Batista should know that one day they are going to face off. Batista took the mic and laughed. He said he knows something Randy doesn't. He said he spoke to Stephanie McMahon earlier today. "And at Armageddon, it is me versus you," Batista said. Orton said he's been waiting four years for the match and he can't wait until Armageddon. Batista's music played.

Backstage, Jericho tried to stir shit by telling Randy Orton that he's an afterthought because of John Cena.
4. John Morrison defeated Finlay (w/Hornswoggle) in an Intercontinental Title tournament match in 4:10. Before the match, a shot aired of Layla talking on the telephone about her conversation with Stephanie McMahon from earlier in the show. The winner of this match advances to face C.M. Punk.
