Monday Night – December 22, 2008 – Toronto, Ontario
Show Opening:
The show opens with Santino and Beth. He says that for the last six months the fans have been laughing at him such as when he lost his title and injured his “scrotis region”. He says that now he is going to tell the kids a little secret, a secret about Santa Claus. Beth seems surprised and asks if he really wants to do this. Santino tells her that he loves her more then anything, but to “shut up-a your face”. He is about to tell the secret when John Cena walks up. He says that the secret is that Santino never liked Santa because he asked for the Barbie corvette and never got it. He then says that there are certain things you don’t talk about and Santa is one of them. He tells Santino to clean it up. Santino replies that he doesn’t like Cena and has wanted to shut his mouth for some time. He then challenges Cena to find a partner and face Glamarella. He looks to his left and sees Goldust, who asks Cena to pick him. He turns back and Santino tells him to pick someone with ovaries. He turns back and Goldust huffs and walks off. Cena turns back and confirms that the match would be Glamarella vs. Cena and a diva. Santino confirms and Cena accepts the match. After he walks away, Santino asks no-one if he mentioned that after he wins he is going to tell the secret.
Kane walks to the ring and Kelly Kelly follows him. Kane says he was politely asked by Stephanie McMahon to issue an apology to Kelly Kelly for the events of last week. He turns to her and says he apologizes, but there is no feeling in it. He then says that Kelly should apologize to him for tricking and lying to him. He says that someday she will regret lying to him and making him angry.
Match #1: Race to the Rumble - Kane vs. Shawn Michaels:
HBK throws some right hands taking Kane to the corner. He throws a chop but is whipped off the ropes and booted in the face. Kane then throws him in the corner and hits a big uppercut. He hits him again sending him to the mat. He picks HBK up and slams him again and scores a near fall. Kane knees HBK in the corner and then throws him to the mat and dropkicks him in the face to score a near fall. He then applies a rear chinlock to HBK. HBK fights to his feet and gets free, then dodges a right hand and hits an atomic drop. Kane comes back with a big right hand. He then whips him across the ring and takes him down, to score a near fall. Kane hits a big kick to the back of Shawn’s head and then kicks him in the face. Kane kicks HBK in the face again and scores a near fall. HBK comes back with some chops and then whips him. Kane reverses the whip but HBK comes back with a shoulder block. He then pops back up but is grabbed by the throat by Kane. He goes for a chokeslam but HBK reverses and applies a crossface. Kane picks him up, connects with a sideslam, and scores a near fall. Kane goes to the top rope and hits a huge clothesline before calling for a chokeslam. He goes for the chokeslam but HBK slides free and pushes him into the corner. He then connects with some Sweet Chin Music and picks up the win.
[JBL is seen watching, but still doesn’t look happy]

[When we return, we see footage of what happened between Legacy and Batista & Cena last week]
Kofi Kingston comes to the ring, and as he does we see footage of him wishing his family and everyone in Jamaica and the Motherland, Africa a Happy Holidays.
Match #2: Kofi Kingston vs. Manu:
Manu applies a headlock but Kofi reverses into an armbar. Manu reverses this into his own armbar but Kofi slips behind him and pushes him into the corner. Manu slides to the outside for a moment, then comes in. Manu grabs Kofi and slams him, then plants him in the corner. Kofi counters with a kick to the face but Manu comes back with a slam of the back of the head to the mat to score a near fall. He then applies a headlock to Kofi. Manu hits a flying headbutt and scores a near fall. Manu applies aheadlock buy Kofi jumps off the second rope to break the hold. Manu hits a knee and throws Kofi to the corner but he counters with an upside down kick as he sldies free. He then hits a high cross body, then ducks a clothesline and hits one of his own off the ropes. He hits the big double legdrop and scores a near fall. Manu catches Kofi in the air as he goes for a crossbody but he counters by flipping Manu onto the back of his head, allowing him to pick up the win.
[John Cena is seen in the back talking to Kelly Kelly.King suggests that Cena may have found a partner for tonight]

Backstage:
Sin Snuka is backstage talking to Randy Orton. He tries to convince him to let him into the group. He says that he could to a lot to help their group. Rhodes and Manu walk up but before they can speak Orton tells them he doesn’t want to hear it. He tells Snuka that they will talk later, and adds that maybe they could use a new member.
[Cole and King then introduce a DX Christmas Merchandise Promo, explaining that they were shot before HBK fell on hard times]
Locker Room:
Punk talks to HBK about a cool explosion he saw over in Iraq during tribute to the troops. Triple H walks in and says that HBK hasn’t been returning his calls and that he finally decided he had to come here. He asks why HBK didn’t come to him for help if he needed it. HBK gets mad and says that he didn’t go to Hunter because then that help would have always been hovering over him and their friendship never would have been the same. Triple H gets pissed and says that him helping HBK wasn’t acceptable but HBK working for JBL is? HBK says this is something he needs to do on his own and Triple H says he hopes he knows what he’s doing. He leaves and HBK whispers that he does too.
Match #3: Mickie James & Melina vs. Jillian & Layla:
IC Champion William Regal is at ringside to support his lady friend Layla. Layla flips Melina over but she reverses and applies an armbar. She tags in Mickie who goes off the ropes and dropkicks her to score a near fall. Layla comes back and hurls Mickie out to the floor where she lands on her face. Layla pulls her back in and scores a near fall. Jillian gets the tag and uses a cartwheel drop to score a near fall. Mickie tries to reverses but Jillian slams her head first to the mat. Mickie manages to flip Jillian to her back and tag in Melina who throws rights and then hits a big face buster to score a near fall. Jillian whips Melina off the ropes and goes for a backbreaker but Melina reverses, slams her, and scores a near fall. Mickie runs in as Layla interferes. Jillian rolls Melina up and scores a near fall. Melina takes Jillian over with a kick, then hits the flip over takedown finisher and picks up the win.

Match #4: Race to the Rumble – Rey Mysterio vs. JBL:
They lock up and JBL pushes Rey into the corner and throws a big right hand. The ref breaks them up and Rey throws some rights and lefts. He goes off the ropes but JBL hits a shoulder block and then a kick to the head. Rey reverses and trips JBL to the second rope before going for a 619. JBL slides out of the ring before the move hits, but Rey launches himself over the ropes and takes JBL out.

JBL picks Rey up by the head when we return. JBL throws a right hand in the corner but Rey licks him. He then goes off the top rope but JBL catches him and hits a fall away slam to score a near fall. JBL applies a strange submission with both a synched up leg and an armlock. Rey gets free and kicks him in the leg several times. Rey goes off the ropes, hits a sunset flip, and scores a near fall. JBL slams Mysterio with a clothesline and scores a near fall. He then drops some elbows and scores a near fall. Rey gets free from JBL and takes him down with a trip and dropkick to score a near fall. JBL hurls Rey through the ropes and down t the floor before following him. He picks Rey up and slams him back first into the apron. Rey just barley manages to beat the count into the ring. JBL goes for a near fall but Rey’s legs are under the ropes. JBL hits a big clothesline and then another. He then scores a near fall. JBL lifts Rey above his head for an abdominal stretch maneuver but Rey slides free after a right hand. JBL applies a sleeper hold but Rey reverses and applies his own sleeper hold. JBL backs Rey into the corner to break the hold. Rey then stops him into the second turnbuckle and then goes off the top for a pop, followed by a head scissor. He then connects with a bulldog and scores a near fall. He then goes off the ropes but JBL hits a huge boot to the face to score a near fall. He throws Rey off the ropes but is kicked in the face to no avail. JBL goes for a fall away slam aiming Rey out of the ring to the announce table but Rey reverses into a DDT and scores a near fall. Rey hits an insuguri to the head and trips JBL to the second rope. He goes for the 619 but Shawn Michaels pulls JBL from the ring. He then slams him in the face and leaves. As a result of the shot to the face, Rey is disqualified and JBL wins the match and advances.
[We then see a Behind the Scenes promo for Behind Enemy Lines III starring Mr. Kennedy]

[When we return, we see the Raw Rebound. It is footage of Orton attacking Batista last week]
Match #5: Race to the Rumble – Randy Orton vs. Batista:
Orton comes to the ring and after a minute a referee runs down to the ring and whispers to Justin Roberts for a moment. Justin then announces that Batista is unable to compete tonight and thus the winner, by forfeit, is Randy Orton.
Orton takes the microphone and says that he has had many memorable moments throughout his career. He mentions being the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history as well as winning the main event at Wrestlemania this year. But he says that nothing was as satisfying as when he kicked Batista in the skull last week. He says that four years ago he won his first World title in this very arena. He says that Batista lifted him up on his shoulders in celebration, but then he slammed him on his back and assaulted him. He says that he has been dreaming of kicking Batista in the head for the last four years. He says that last week it finally happened, Christmas came early. He asks Batista how it feels to know that he won’t be facing Cena at the Royal Rumble and how it feels to have his career cut short. He says that four years ago he was in Evolution and now he’s right back where he started, taking a back seat to Orton. He says that Batista did it to himself. He had his time, and his time is over and that next time he sees him, he will once again be the World Heavyweight Champion.

Backstage:
Dolph Ziggler talks to Kelly Kelly backstage and she turns to a mirror. When she turns back, Miz & Morrison are there. Miz sarcastically thanks her for the chokeslam and tombstone he received last week. He says he knew they had problems in ECW but he didn’t realize she was so vengeful. Miz asks if its Cena she’s protecting, but she denies this and says that he simply asked her to be his partner tonight and she agreed. Morrison then mentions that someone broke into the superstars’ hotel and trashed one of the rooms. He mentions that the room was wrecked and luggage was stolen, and all kinds of stuff. He then says that he thinks it was her room and Miz sarcastically says it’s a shame. They then walk off.
Match #6: Race to the Rumble - Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk:
They lock up and then break up. They lock up again and Jericho applies a headlock. Punk is whipped off the ropes and knocked down with an elbow. They lock up again and Jericho applies a headlock again which Punk reverses. Jericho flips him over to the mat and holds him down. Punk reverses into a leg scissors until Jericho breaks free. Punk then applies a headlock of his own. Punk is whipped off the ropes and he kicks Jericho in the face as he comes back. He then slams him and scores a near fall. Punk takes him down with some shoulders and a near fall. Jericho hits a vertical suplex and scores a near fall. Punk is whipped from corner to corner but he flips off the rope, hits a cross body, and scores a near fall. He then twists Jericho’s arm and kicks him right in the jaw.

Punk chokes Jericho in the corner and then takes him down. Jericho knocks Punk down and kicks him before suplexing him and scoring a near fall. Jericho then applies a headlock. Punk gets to his feet and breaks the hold with elbows but Jericho reverses and slams him. Jericho places Punk onto the turnbuckle and tries for a superplex but Punk pushes him off. He then goes off the tope, hits a big cross body and lateral press to score a near fall. He then hits some rights and then whips him off the ropes followed by a kick to the face. Jericho pulls himself to the corner, then dodges Punk. He runs at Punk but is hit with a scoop slam and Jericho scores a near fall. Jericho then hits a running bulldog and then goes for the Lionsault. Punk grabs Jericho before he leaps off the ropes and tries for the GTS. Jericho reverses and manages to apply the Walls of Jericho. Punk nearly grabs the rope but fails. He tries again but Jericho pulls him from the ropes. Punk finally manages to reverse the hold and knocks Jericho to the ropes. He then hits a big knee lift and scores a near fall. Punk hits some knees and then throws Jericho to the corner. He runs at him and hits the high knee and then goes for the running bulldog. Jericho stops him but Punk hits a big kick to the temple. Punk goes off the ropes but Jericho turns it into a Codebreaker and picks up the win.
Backstage:
We see Kelly Kelly walking quickly through a parking lot area. Todd Grisham follows her as she runs and asks what this means for her tag team match with John Cena. She yells over her shoulder that she talked to him and he understands, but she has to go.

[When we return, we see a summary promo from Tribute to the Troops]
[Cole & King then promote the Glamarella challenge match coming up and we see Cena walking to the ring alone, title in hand.]

Santino says that before they get started he wants to draw out attention to a young lady in the audience. He says she is the world’s biggest Santino fan. She yells out that she is the biggest Beth Phoenix fan but Santino ignored this by saying that yes, Beth Phoenix is his girlfriend, making her the second biggest Santino Marella fan. He says that second place isn’t bad, and that Canada is second to the United States in almost everything. He adds that they are both behind Italy, but that goes without saying. He then says that he said earlier tonight that when he won this match, he was going to reveal a secret about Santa Claus. But, he says why wait? He tells all the kids to listen closely because the secret is….
{John Cena’s Music Hit’s and he comes to the ring}
John Cena says he did some research and found out his secret and it is amazing. He syas that secret is… that Santa Claus is here! He says that he took time out of his schedule to visit the arena. He says that he drank some milk, ate some cookies, and shook hands with Dolph Ziggler, and then adds that he bought a front row ticket! He then points out Santa in the front row of the crowd and there is a guy in a Santa suit. He says that Santa did one more thing and that was give him a wish. Cena said he wished for something he really needed, and that was another tag partner for tonight. He points back toward the ramp as…
{Trish Stratus’ Music hits and she comes to the ring}
Match #7: Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix vs. John Cena & Trish Stratus:
Santino and Cena start the match. They lock up and Cena flips him to the mat in a headlock. He then pushes him to the corner but Santino hits a cheap shot and gets free. He then tags in Beth Phoenix and Cena tags in Trish. Beth taunts her and then pushes her but Trish comes back with rights and lefts. She uses the matrix move and then slams her to the mat. Trish throws Beth to the corner and hits some chops until Beth throws her into her corner. She then holds her as Santino goes to the top. Trish hits Beth to get free and crashes into the corner causing Santino to land on his “scrotis region”. Trish then uses a head scissors to flips him across the ring. Beth nails Trish and then slams her to the mat hard. She drags her around the ring by her hair. Beth then picks her up and slams her face first to the mat. Trish manages to tag Cena and he takes Santino down with some shoulder blocks as Santino swings wildly and hits nothing. Cena then hits a 5 Knuckle Shuffle and goes for the FU but Beth attacks him from behind. Trish then connects with the Chick Kick taking Beth out of the picture. Cena lifts Santino again, nails the FU, and picks up the win.
